Salute to all LTC homes

To all those working in long-term care, registered nurses and registered practical nurses, personal support workers, managers, care staff and support staff, this message is for you. This has been an unprecedented year-and-a-half of uncertainty, heartbreak, and change. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us that life can dramatically change very quickly and in overwhelming ways. Despite the devastating outbreaks, the negative press about the state of long-term care, the staff shortages, the never-ending scrutiny, you have not given up hope. Many lives have been lost, but many lives have also been saved because of everyone’s collective efforts. On behalf of all of us at RNAO, thank you for all you have done and continue to do for the residents and families of long-term care. We received so many wonderful stories of your strength, resilience, teamwork and innovation during such difficult times. These stories have brought light to the darkness of the pandemic. Thank you for caring, continuing to provide quality care, and bringing compassion to an unprecedented situation. As we move further into the fourth wave, keep strong. RNAO is with you and will continue to support and advocate for you, residents and their families  and for the long-term care sector.

With warmest regards,

Janet Chee and Heather McConnell
